Art-Making Workshops

For the critters and cuties, if you want to bring reference photos, that would be great... especially if they are of your pets.

Supplies are provided. B&W, no color.

A seasonal landscape painting will be developed using these techniques. Wintery trees will be the focus of this workshop. Additional patterns and textures using a variety of tools will be explored.

Materials will be provided for your creative landscape ideas.

Starting from the simplest of shapes we will construct their basic forms and add the characteristic details of each animal. With just a pencil and paper we will create our favorite scaled, feathered, and furry wildlife. Drawing the wonders of nature is within your grasp.

Dorothy Hughes Engelman is a CZT, Certified Zentangle Teacher, and has been practicing this non-representational, meditative drawing method since the beginning of the pandemic. She is a member of the Lansing Women's Art Collective, the Mid-Michigan Art Guild, and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing.

Learn how to simplify your subjects into simple shapes, lines, and forms to take the frustration out of the creative process, then, build those elements into full-fledged drawings. Join us for a fun and laid-back class that will inspire you to draw by using techniques that keep it simple.

Basic letter forms and pen strokes will be demonstrated and practiced using felt-tip calligraphy pens. Participants will also be introduced to other kinds of pens and have an opportunity to try them if they like. Pens, Paper, Instructional sheets, and guides will be provided. This workshop is suitable for people with no calligraphy experience or those wishing to expand their skills.
