Meet our Jurors

Frank Heveran

Frank (he/him or they/them) is the Program Director at the Salus Center, Lansing's LGBTQIA+ resource and community center. He's passionate about creating programming that builds community by forming new connections and friendships, fulfilling folks' needs, and welcoming all. Outside of Salus, he is a potter and loves wheel throwing, surface decoration, and experimenting with his art.

Thiago Porraz

Thiago Porraz (he/him) is a trans, queer, latino artist living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He began his artistic education with two years of courses at Michigan State University and a semester at Kendall College of Art and Design, then ultimately decided to continue building his artistic skills as a self-taught artist. While he enjoys drawing in pencil, charcoal, and ink, his foremost passion is acrylic painting. Much of his work gravitates toward themes of trauma and queerness, and his painting style has been described as a blend of realism and surrealism.

Yve Holtzclaw

Yve Holtzclaw (they/them) is a genderqueer artist and educator originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up along the riverbanks of the Chattahoochee, Yve draws their inspiration from the conversations between humans and their environment. Specifically tuned into the effects of urban crawl, industrialization and climate change, they find inspiration in the parallels between the relationship of humans on their local ecology, to the persistence of invasive, domestic, and pest species that continue to assert themselves  in otherwise “tame” places. Since graduating from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with their BFA in ceramics and art history in 2020, they have been awarded the Donis. A. Dondis travel grant, completed a residency in ceramics at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art, and organized shows both locally and nationally. They currently reside in Kalamazoo where they work and teach ceramics at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art.
