Summer Art Camp!
Ages 7 - 12
AM classes: 9 a.m. - noon
PM classes: 1 - 4 p.m.
Monday - Thursday: June 25 - 28, July 9 - 12, July 23 - 26
Cost: $75 ($70 members)/4 half-day sessions
lunch option: $5. per day

Summer Art Camp students will learn and experience creativity in the professional setting of Lansing Art Gallery and Education Center. Students will explore creative processes, techniques and materials with the guidance of trained artists. Each series of classes will culminate in a student art show! Open to all skill levels. Maximum class size: 15 students.

Week 1 - June 25 - 28
AM - Drawing - Kathryn Onasch
Learn to draw “outside the box!”
Students will learn the basic fundamentals of drawing while having fun and growing artistically. This class will explore the fun in creating line drawings of nature, dwellings, and people. Students will use color to create patterns, lines, shapes, forms, values and colors in visually stimulating pieces of artwork. They will learn techniques with a variety of media, while expressing themselves creatively.

Week 1 - June 25 - 28
PM - Clay - Bria Luu
Discover the joy of creating with clay!
Students will learn to create clay forms using three main types of clay construction: pinching, coiling, and slab-building. Students learn ancient techniques and will hone their skills with creative processes, creating surface design and texture with special clay tools. Students will reference a variety of examples of clay for inspiration, including Native American color palettes and forms.

Week 2 - July 9 - 12
AM - Photography- Layna Williams
Create and use your own camera to make photographs!
Students will explore an alternative style of photography that allows for a more tactile hands-on approach, creating a pinhole camera out of recycled materials. Students will learn the science and artistic characteristics behind the photography art form. Exposing paper and film negatives, students will create photograms and multiple contact prints using the cyanotype wet printing process.

Week 2 - July 9 - 12
PM - Mural painting - Tony Hendrick
Think BIG! ... Paint BIG! ... Have FUN!
National award-winning muralist Tony Hendrick will guide students through an intuitive and highly unique painting process. Students will work together on creating a large mural, which will then be divided, distributed and further painted by students independently. All students will explore their own natural creative genius and take home a portion of the mural. Designed for joy and discovery within the painting process, this series of classes is sure to open minds and offer an exceptional experience.

Week 3 - July 23 - 26
AM - Painting - Chelsy Billips
Explore watercolors through landscapes!
Students will use a creative approach in creating their own "fantasy" landscapes. They will learn new techniques including: wet on wet, wet on dry, and the effect of salt on water color. They will understand the concept of creating a landscape, incorporating background, middle ground, and foreground.

Week 3 - July 23 - 26
PM - Recycled Art - Jane Reiter
Join the movement of artists working from “trash to treasure!”
Students will create functional or sculptural artwork with discarded or recycled materials. Students will learn about design principles, while expressing themselves in both two and three dimensions. Some items we will work with include: wire, glue, yarn, plastic, hardware, string, cloth, sticks, rocks and more! Students will reassemble re-purposed “stuff” to make fresh and new art.
