Summer Art Camp

Summer Art Camp!
Ages 7 - 12
AM classes: 9 a.m. - noon
PM classes: 1 - 4 p.m.
Monday - Thursday: June 25 - 28, July 9 - 12, July 23 - 26
Cost: $75 ($70 members)/4 half-day sessions
lunch option: $5. per day

Summer Art Camp students will learn and experience creativity in the professional setting of Lansing Art Gallery and Education Center. Students will explore creative processes, techniques and materials with the guidance of trained artists. Each series of classes will culminate in a student art show! Open to all skill levels. Maximum class size: 15 students. Supported in part by National Endowment for the Arts, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Arts Council of Greater Lansing, Ingham County and Greater Lansing Potters' Guild.

Art Scholarship Alert High School Competition and Exhibition

Community Reception: Friday, April 13, 7 – 9 PM

Lansing Art Gallery welcomes the public for a community reception and awards ceremony in honor of the 28th annual Art Scholarship Alert High School Competition and Exhibition. Art Scholarship Alert nears the milestone of $100,000 in awards given and will present over $3,000 in awards on Friday, April 13. Free to the public, the reception offers the community an opportunity to enjoy artwork and meet talented young artists.

Lansing Art Gallery’s 28th Annual Art Scholarship Alert will open April 3rd. More than 150 works of art from across Mid-Michigan will be displayed.

Art Scholarship Alert is a juried art exhibition and scholarship competition for grades 9 through 12. The program is designed to give recognition and financial assistance for outstanding art students, encourage artistic growth and to provide an opportunity to participate as artists in a professional setting.

Since 1984, Art Scholarship Alert has awarded nearly $100,000 to young artists to help further their creative endeavors. In addition to the portfolio competition, students at the senior level may apply for the annual $1,000 Sara Jane Venable Scholarship.

Colossal Color: Express yourself with color!
Students will explore painting, drawing and collage. Gain confidence in color mixing techniques as you explore watercolor pencils, charcoal and paint. Instructor, artist Jane Reiter, will introduce students to contemporary and historical use of color (or shades of gray) in the arts, including “Blue Man Group,” Henri Matisse, Jackson Pollock and more!

Sneak Preview and JET Trunk Show
Lansing Art Gallery’s Sneak Preview will feature Lansing jeweler, James Davis, a.k.a. JET. A Gallery exhibitor for over 25 years, James creates wearable sterling silver designs inspired by African patterns. His classic lines and specialized techniques appeal to many collectors. James invites patrons to wear their favorite “JET” jewelry to the event.

34TH Annual Holiday Art Market: November 18 - December 23
Lansing Art Gallery’s Holiday Art Market celebrates a local tradition and promotes the local economy. Promoting over 100 Michigan artists, the Holiday Art Market boasts a large collection of Michigan made jewelry, glass, sculpture, paintings, pottery, and wearable art ranging from traditional to funky. Expanding the Holiday Art Market exhibition to over 2,000 square feet of retail space for the Holidays, the Gallery will show case past favorites and many new artists.

Lansing Art Gallery announces Girl Scout and Boy Scout art programs

Lansing Art gallery is pleased to announce the addition of Girl Scout and Boy Scout art programs to our growing education center. We invite scout groups and their families to discover our creative approach in fulfilling badge requirements through a comprehensive, hands-on, and exciting exploration of a variety of media and art techniques.

Professional artists make the scouting experience at Lansing Art Gallery truly memorable and unique. All classes are taught by professional artist/educators, who inspire students to learn more about art.

All sessions begin with a docent-guided tour of the gallery’s professional artwork. Professional artist/educators will lead the students through art badge activities. These professional elements lend authenticity to the students’ process and product. Note: Although troops will be completing all requirements, actual badges will not be available at Lansing Art Gallery.
